In 2016, BC’s educational curriculum began undergoing an important change. The redesigned curriculum provides learners with the necessary skills for the future and focuses on literacy, numeracy, and the First Peoples Principles of Learning, and supports deeper learning through concept-based and competency driven education. This shift to how and what students learn in school requires a corresponding change to reporting policies and practices.

The K-12 Student Reporting Policy Framework is part of an overall approach to assessment and communicating student learning which aims to provide a more complete picture of how students are doing and how their learning is progressing and developing. Through active participation in the assessment process, students are provided with, and reflect upon, meaningful information and feedback about their learning, so they are engaged and empowered to reach their learning goals. The Reporting Policy focuses on assessment and reporting practices which allow for learners and families to more fully understand where children are in their learning, where they are going next and the ways in which families can help support student success.
